Jessica Henwick, who plays martial arts instructor and unwitting ‘Hand’ student recruiter in Netflix’s Marvel show Iron Fist and the upcoming Defenders series, is super excited to be part of a larger story. Speaking recently to Entertainment Weekly, the actress sounds very confident that Marvel fans will love The Defenders.

“We pick up with Colleen not in New York — which is crazy, as all the shows have been predominantly in New York. We find her a month after we left her. It’s really interesting she hasn’t been able to deal with the emotional trauma she dealt with in Iron Fist. So it builds to a head and she explodes in Defenders.”

This is pretty interesting as most of the Marvel/Netflix shows take place from each other relatively in real time, with the exception of Luke Cage and Daredevil Season 2 which almost takes place concurrently. The last time we saw Colleen was in the epilogue of Iron Fist, where she and Danny discover that the portal to K’un L’un has vanished and that the Hand may have infiltrated the fabled city for good. The one month gap also sheds more light on Finn Jones’ previous comments about how Danny is pretty much actively hunting mindset for members of the Hand come The Defenders. They f’ed up badly invading K’un Lun. Also, judging from those set photos of Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones walking down the street during the early days of winter, there’s a good chance that his Defenders story spans several months as opposed to one crazy week.

Henwick also went on to address the excitement surrounding the potential team-ups fans of the Marvel/Netflix shows have been dying to see:

“It’s good, it’s really good. I think people are going to love seeing characters interact with each other, they’re going to see Colleen and Misty, (actress Simone Missick), they’re going to love seeing Luke Cage with the Iron Fist, Danny Rand. I think fans are going to freak out.”

The British actress has been very busy lately. Not only does she play an integral part in Iron Fist, she also starred in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens as Jess Testor and portrayed Nymeria Sand in Game of Thrones. She is a very busy lady indeed! What do you think of Henwick’s comments about the Defenders timeline? Does it excite that it’s super close to the ending of the first season of Iron Fist or were you hoping for something more distant? Let us know in the comments below!

The Defenders premieres on Netflix on August 18, 2018.
