Marvel Studios’ first Asian led film Shang-Chi is one step closer to becoming a reality as the studio has found its director, Destin Daniel Cretton. Cretton is best known for his acclaimed indie drama Short Term 12 which starred our Carol Danvers, Brie Larson in her first leading role. He has since worked with Larson on 2 more films, namely, The Glass Castle and Just Mercy. The latter is currently being filmed and also stars Black Panther‘s Michael B. Jordan.

According to THR, the studio met with several directors which included Dear White People‘s Justin Tipping, Master of None‘s Alan Yang, and Jessica Jones vet Deborah Chow. It was reported last year that David Callaham was hired to pen the script following his work on Wonder Woman 1984. This is exciting news for a potentially game-changing superhero film.
