While we wait for the second half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s fourth season to kickoff on January 10, 2017, a few details have been emerging about where the ‘LMD’ story arc will be heading. In the past week, we’ve covered both a synopsis and still images for ‘Broken Promises’, the ninth episode of the season and it appears some changes may be coming to S.H.I.E.L.D. and in particular, Director Jeffrey Mace.
This morning we’ve gotten a snippet of information in regards to the tenth episode of season four, thanks to TV listings website zap2it. According to zap2it, 4×10 will be titled ‘The Patriot’, which you may recognize as the superhero alter ego of S.H.I.E.L.D. director Jeffrey Mace.
According to the site, Agents Coulson and Mack uncover “a shocking secret about Mace, which leaves all of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a dangerous position.”
When we were first introduced to Director Mace this season, his primary goal for the relaunch of S.H.I.E.L.D. was to achieve complete transparency as the agency worked its way to becoming a legitimate government entity once again. We saw, however, that Director Mace’s “transparency policy” didn’t last too long as he worked an under-the-table deal with Senator Ellen Nadeer. As a part of the deal, Mace agreed to help out Nadeer’s Inhuman brother complete Terrigenesis in exchange for Nadeer agreeing to not release the tape that shows S.H.I.E.L.D. had been working a mission with Daisy Johnson and Ghost Rider.
It’s clear the Director Mace has flexed on his transparency quite a bit already so it isn’t entirely unreasonable to say we could very well see him go against his own policies and bend the rules further as the season progresses.
The first arc of the season surrounded the agents dealing with Johnson, a rogue colleague of theirs, and Robbie Reyes, more commonly known as Ghost Rider to the show’s fans. During the midseason finale, we saw that Aida, a life model decoy (LMD) created by scientist Holden Radcliffe, will be the primary antagonist of the second arc.
What do you think the ‘shocking secret’ is? Could this open the door for someone else to take over as Director? Maybe Daisy Johnson as Whedon hinted at? Sound off in the comments below!
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns from its midseason break on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at it’s 9pm Eastern time slot on ABC.
