Looks like our dreams of seeing the Fantastic Four and X-Men collide with the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be in limbo. There is a returning contender in the battle to win the lucrative rights of intellectual properties owned by Fox: Comcast. This titan of industry has joined negotiations after being turned down during initial talks, all this according to CNBC
Let’s talk about this plan of yours. I think it’s good, except it sucks. So let me do the plan and that way it might be really good. – Comcast
CNBC reveals that Comcast is willing to offer $60B in cash to Fox, dwarfing Disney’s $52B, with the hopes of acquiring Fox and most of its media assets. They also reckon that if Disney is willing to jack up their price, Comcast’s offer may very well reach the $100B mark. There’s one caveat though. Currently in deliberation by the US government is a similar deal underway involving Time Warner and AT&T. That said deal is under scrutiny by the government and is in hot water. Should the US government shut down this Time Warner deal, CNBC says Comcast may step back.
But all hope isn’t lost. CNBC says that the owners of Fox, the Murdochs, believe Disney to be the ideal company to sell their assets to, despite Comcast’s more lucrative offer.
