For the first time in a long time, the lineup of upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies is somewhat of a mystery. After Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers 4 film, details have been scarce on what properties we can expect, or even which characters might still be alive! While we are still waiting on the announcement, one sequel that we feel fairly confident will be happening in the near future is Doctor Strange 2. Now, thanks to a recent post by C. Robert Cargill, we may be one step closer to seeing everyone’s favorite Sorcerer Supreme again.
Yesterday, the Doctor Strange co-writer took to Twitter to tease another project with director Scott Derrickson.
I'm never happier than when I'm deep into a project and everything is firing on all cylinders. That's exactly what's going on with me and @scottderrickson right now. It's been amazing saddling back up with him and writing together again.

Now, before we get too carried away, Cargill and Derrickson have collaborated on multiple projects in the past, including Sinister and Sinister 2. Also, there is evidence that this tweet might be referring to one of two other cyberpunk adaptations that both men have had plans to develop. One of these is an adaptation of the science-fiction novel When Gravity Fails, the other is a script for a movie based off of the video game series Deus Ex. Both of these projects have been hinted at for years with little movement by the creative team.
However, it would not be surprising at all if this mystery project turns out to be the Doctor Strange sequel. The movie is basically a given at this point, and rumors certainly point to Derrickson sitting in the director’s chair once again. The filmmaker even tweeted some writing ideas earlier last year.
Possibly Nightmare, but he's a tricky villain to get right. And you can't tell the story of Doctor Strange w/out eventually dealing w/Clea. https://t.co/C4mZYgGkkA

Having Nightmare as a villain would be incredible! Doctor Strange clearly took some creative and design influences from Christopher Nolan’s Inception…now imagine going into a Dream Dimension where you struggle to discern between what is real and what is not? This would take the film in an exciting new direction as well as possibly introduce some horror aspects, which Derrickson is certainly familiar with. Personally, I would love if the sequel included the character of Scarlet Witch, pairing her with the sorcerer supreme as a trainee trying to better understand her abilities.
Wanda Maximoff certainly has powers that allow her to have mental control over others…What if she were manipulated by Nightmare and lost control of these abilities? We’ve seen some of her true powers unleashed after the loss of her twin brother, what if she also lost Vision? What if she became lost in a shared dream dimension where she could interact with her deceased loved ones and began to lose her grip on reality, putting every sleeping consciousness in the world at risk? I’m picturing a Dark Phoenix-esque storyline mixed with Inception.
But enough of my personal wants! What do you want to see from Doctor Strange 2? Let’s chat in the comments below!
