What a ride we’ve been going on for Phase 4! Over the last few days, news has been breaking close to every day on Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU’s 4th film of Phase 4 scheduled to release on May 7, 2021. After MCUExchange’s earlier report of Marvel Studios entering talks with Sam Raimi to direct the upcoming sequel, the production ranks continued to be filled in today. A new report from the Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Michael Waldron has been tapped to rewrite the movie’s script, previously written by Jade Bartlett.

He is best known for writing and producing the hit Cartoon Network series Rick and Morty, and he also has producing credits on the upcoming series Heels and Bubbles, both currently in development. Marvel fans in particular should be very excited for his hire though, as he is also an executive producer and the head writer on Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series Loki, which has just started production in the last few weeks. He is obviously making a great first impression on Kevin Feige and the Marvel team based off of his work thus far, and with the reports of how deeply Loki will connect to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it could be a fantastic hire considering he will know both projects inside and out. After a rocky few weeks on production with this movie, both of these new hires should help get things back on track, and it should start getting all of the fans excited again for the release next year!
