It has been a roller coaster start of the year for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as we learned that Scott Derrickson departed as the director of the sequel and there is no word yet for a replacement. However, we also learned that the film is casting for two villains and speculations have been rampant with the likes of Clea and Umar popping up. And now, we came across a new rumor from a popular UK casting blog site called Backstage where it revealed a possible synopsis for the Doctor Strange sequel. You can read it below.
After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr Stephen Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. But an old friend-turned-enemy puts an end to his plans and causes Strange to unleash unspeakable evil.
There is no word if this synopsis proves to be true or rather just a filler for the casting site but it is certainly telling. The mention of the Time Stone proves to be vital given that we saw in Avengers Endgame that the Infinity Stones have already been destroyed. It also makes sense that Strange will keep on digging the ancient texts of the sorcerers to find out if there is a way to restore the Time Stone given that there is a looming threat of Dormammu. As you can recall, the time stone is the main weapon used by Strange to ward off Dormammu in the first film’s climax. If the time stone would return, there is also a question if the other Infinity Stones would do so as well.
Another line in the rumored synopsis is the old friend-turned-enemy which could mean that we will see the return of Baron Mordo to give problems to Strange and Wong. We last saw Mordo in the first film’s post-credits sequence where he mentioned that the world is full of sorcerers and it could imply that he is on a one-man mission to eliminate them. Given the long gap between the two films, it would be interesting to see how Mordo’s journey has changed and developed his character. The unspeakable evil mentioned could signal how the different facets of evil in the multiverse will be unleashed and Mordo could very well be the main catalyst for it.
Production of the sequel is set to take place this year and we can see how the Time Stone and Mordo factor in the story of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
