Vincent D’Onofrio has stated in no uncertain terms that his Daredevil character, Wilson Fisk, will NOT be showing up in The Defenders when he was asked on Twitter if Fisk would appear in the new Netflix show:

However, he has also recently stated, in similarly adamant terms, that he WILL return. Speaking with Collider recently he categorically confirmed that Fisk is coming back…but did not (and appeared that he could not) say when:

He will, eventually. Honestly, I wish I knew ‘cause I could plan my year better. I know he will come back, I just don’t know when. I can’t wait to find out.

Following a brutal and devastating introduction in the first season of Daredevil, Fisk made relatively small, but narratively important, appearances in season two. Appearances that seemed to concretely establish that the MCU in general, and Daredevil in particular, had not seen the last of him. D’Onofrio’s comments echo that.

Of course, D’Onofrio’s preference would be more Fisk, more often as the actor seems to love the MCU:

I’m totally into the Marvel stuff, big time. I want to do Marvel, all the time. I love it so much ‘cause they’re so creative over there. They let you bring this whole new thing to an iconic thing that they invented. It’s just so much fun. I love it to death.

He even has dreams of getting a chance to move to the cinematic side if the opportunity ever arose except it’s not the Spider-Man appearance we’ve been hoping for.

I’ve been tweeting back and forth with James Gunn, about doing something with him because I love Guardians of the Galaxy so much.”

What are your thoughts on the return of Fisk? Sooner or later? Would he have more impact if used sparingly or, like D’Onofrio, do you want more, more, more? Let us know in the comments section.

The first two seasons of Daredevil are available to stream now on Netflix. Season 3’s timeline has not been announced.
