One of the characters fans were hoping to meet in the first season of Daredevil was Elektra. In fact, when Rosario Dawson originally joined the cast last year and Marvel didn’t confirm the character she would be playing, fans immediately speculated Dawson could be our new Elektra.

That didn’t happen, of course. It turned out that Dawson was cast as Claire Temple, a.k.a Night Nurse, who will serve as a connecting thread for all of the Netflix shows.

With Elektra not appearing in the first season, fans hoped we’d get to see her in season two, especially since there was a reference to her during a flashback scene between Foggy & Matt.

When audition tapes made their way onto Vimeo last month, it looked as though fans would soon get their wish. There were two videos of females auditioning for the role of Elektra posted to the site and removed shortly after being discovered. About a week later, another audition video found its way onto the same site which, as of the time of this posting, is now listed as private. Usually when audition tapes find their way onto Vimeo, or as has proven to be the case with the Marvel Netflix shows, it’s because the part has already been filled.

If you’ll recall, we uncovered videos of actresses auditioning for the roles of Jessica Jones and Harper shortly before those roles were filled by Krysten Ritter and Carrie-Anne Moss for Marvel’s upcoming Jessica Jones series, which is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.

So it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to learn that Elektra is indeed making her way to Hell’s Kitchen when Daredevil returns next year.

Marvel has just announced that actress Elodie Yung will join the cast of Daredevil season two as Elektra Natchios.

Yung’s credits include G.I. Joe: Retaliation and District 13: Ultimatum.

Here’s the full press release from Marvel:

Yung will play Elektra, a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle. The first season of “Marvel’s Daredevil” made reference to Elektra, but now Yung will portray one of Daredevil’s fan-favorite characters. Elektra marks the most recent major addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she will join Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle in the upcoming season of the Netflix Original Series “Marvel’s Daredevil.”

“After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is Executive Produced by Doug Petrie (“American Horror Story,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), Marco Ramirez (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “DaVinci’s Demons”) and Drew Goddard **(“Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost”), along with Marvel TV’s **Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.”)

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios. Season one of “Marvel’s Daredevil” is now streaming on Netflix.

Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. “Marvel’s Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Jon Bernthal, and Rosario Dawson.

Daredevil season two is currently filming in New York for a rumored April release in 2016, following the same time-frame as the first season.
