With The Defenders set to start shooting within a week, all the confirmed cast members will start flooding into the ‘Big Apple’. We know that the actual Defenders (Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones) will obviously be there, as well as the rock star secondary cast members from each of the shows that help keep this universe interesting, such as Rosario Dawson, Simone Missick, Elden Henson, Eka Darville and Jessica Henwick. However, when it comes to the darker side of the Netflix shows, we’re still in the dark on whether or not the more morally gray characters, like Jon Bernthal‘s Punisher or Elodie Yung‘s Elektra, will also be joining this star-studded cast.
However, today Yung took to Instagram and posted a picture of the NYC skyline with the caption “I ❤️ NYC”, indicating that she is in town at the same time that many other cast members are showing up for work on The Defenders. You can check out the post below.
The timing is a bit too spot on for this to be a coincidence, so there is a real strong possibility that Yung will be reprising her role as Elektra in The Defenders. Additionally, her Stunt Coordinator, Jason Ng, even replied with the comment “Yessss! Welcome back @e.l.o.d.i.e.y.u.n.g! Dinner with the gang ?” as you can see in the Instagram post above.
Darville, who plays Malcolm in Jessica Jones and is already confirmed to be appearing in The Defenders, also arrived in NYC recently. Darville posted on Instagram earlier today that he was glad to be back in NYC.
When we last saw Elektra, her character was revealed to be the Black Sky, a weapon of unknown powers for The Hand, the gang of ninjas that served as the villain for much of the second season of Daredevil. The early teaser for The Defenders, released this past summer, indicates that The Hand will likely be a part of the reason that the team comes together. What we do know about the series is that Sigourney Weaver will be joining as the villain, but the villain that she will embody is still to be revealed.
Will Elektra be joining Weaver’s villain to take on the street level heroes of the MCU? We’ll keep you informed as anything develops. Meanwhile, tell us what you would like to see, in the comments!
