It was announced a few days ago that Marvel finally hired a director for The Eternals, a post-Avengers 4 property that’s been in the works for some time now. Chloe Zhao, most known for her independent filmmaking, is slated to direct the debut of Jack Kirby‘s iconic creations. In their report, The Hollywood Reporter shared some details regarding the film’s plot.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that one aspect to the story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans. The project also allows Marvel to assemble a diverse cast of various shapes and sizes.
I’m not deeply familiar with The Eternals‘ comic lore so I can’t speak to this particular angle but as a fan of nuanced romances fueled by cast chemistry, I can say that I’m looking forward to this. Love interests haven’t been the MCU’s strong suit and when it’s done bad, it’s incredibly forgettable. But when done good, like Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, it’s highly cherished. Here’s to hoping that they give us a great onscreen romance to chew on.
