In just a few weeks, James Gunn and crew will wrap production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and they have done a pretty good job at keeping the plot under wraps. We know that the story will heavily revolve around Star-Lord finding his father, but other than that, it is all a mystery. Two months ago, a report came out that had character names for some of the supporting characters, but now a new detail has come out that one will be the main villain of the movie.
It was previously thought that Kurt Russell could be playing the villain and have a father/son conflict throughout, but that will not actually be the case. According to JoBlo’s latest report, the main villain will actually be Ayesha, played by Elizabeth Debicki. Now they do not reveal any other details about her plan or desire, but still, this means that 2 out of the 3 MCU films next year have lead female baddies. Pretty cool. Although, if her creation by The Enclave is a big part of the story, I can’t help but wonder if they originally wanted to use Adam Warlock, and that is the role Matthew McConaughey passed on.
JoBlo was not done there, as they also followed up on some details for Thor: Ragnarok. Their sources are telling them that Jeff Goldblum‘s Grandmaster will be the one running the arena style gladiator matches that Hulk and Thor will take part in, but also that Hulk “will be rocking the one-shoulder armor as seen in the comics.” They also say that Tessa Thompson‘s version of Valyrie will have a different look as well, with her dawning war paint, which should make her seem even more imposing.
As far as the plot of Ragnarok, we know it will be a buddy road trip and that they are doing this to try and save Asgard and stop Hela. However, in terms of what Thor is after, JoBlo says,
He needs to find the ultimate weapon to stop Ragnarok and reset the universe.
What could this ultimate weapon be? I have no idea. I’d like to think this journey involves a meeting with beta Ray Bill, but that is besides the point. Anyway, while I do not know what the weapon is, saying it is the ultimate weapon seems to indicate to me that there is an Infinity Stone behind that power. Let us know what you think about these latest details in the comments below!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters May 5, 2017. Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to hit theaters November 3, 2017.
