With the premiere of Doctor Strange less than a week away, much of the focus has been on his character and how he will change the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. Similarly, it’s been stated by Kevin Feige that Thor: Ragnarok will “impact everything that comes after” when it releases in 2017. With filming coming to a close we were treated to a Facebook live video of the final day of filming with Director Taika Waititi, Thor himself Chris Hemsworth, and Tessa Thompson who plays the heroine Valkyrie. Tessa Thompson was showing some unique face markings for the character, which clearly will be one way Waititi will put his stamp on the character. But now thanks to a shot by a Twitter user, we catch a glimpse of Valkyrie’s more traditional costume.

Many may remember the previously revealed concept art for the Valkyrie character that was made in pre-production for Thor: The Dark World. As you can see in the pictures below, they featured a style that would have been very different from the comic appearance of the character.

Judging by the pictures below, it appears Marvel has moved away from the previously released concept art and now fans will recognize Tessa Thompson wearing the classic blue cape, and aesthetic the Valkyrie character is known for. Could that possibly be a single-sided shoulder cape, though? It’s hard to tell what’s on the other side of the long hair in the first shot but the second and third below doesn’t show the cape at all.

We have yet to understand exactly how Valkyrie will be used for Thor: Ragnarok, but it’s interesting to note the character has crossed paths with Doctor Strange on a few occasions and has ties to The Defenders in the comics. However, with a storyline that we already know will feature a major arc for Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk, it may be hard to see how she will fit into a packed film. Not to mention a star-studded ensemble of supporting characters that we haven’t seen yet, such as Skurge (Karl Urban) or Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). Still, with Valkyrie being known for her ability to see the approach of death by means of a “deathglow” around a person, along with resurrection abilities, the character could easily have ties to Hela (Cate Blanchett) in the film. We will have to wait a bit to find out, but it’s certainly looking like it will be special.

Let us know how what you think of Valkyrie’s look, and how she will be used in the MCU in the comments below.
