In three weeks, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to ABC for it’s third season. The focus will once again take a turn to the Inhumans for the vast majority of the season, and the promotional material has started to come out with the above image. Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Mack (Henry Simmons) are both members of the new Secret Warriors team, and this image brings them face to face with the familiar Inhuman Lincoln (Luke Mitchell).
Season one was all about Hydra and the fallout from S.H.I.E.L.D., and season two introduced us to Inhumans and brought an end to Hydra as a whole, or so it seemed. The upcoming third season will bring us Lash (Matthew Willig), who we recently got our first look at in an exclusive Yahoo sneak peek, another alien hunting organization led by Constance Zimmer, as well as the resurgence of Hydra under Ward’s leadership. While Marvel hasn’t released much promo-wise for the upcoming season, TVLine was able to give a small glimpse into what we can expect as part of their Fall TV Spoilers.
Warning: Possible spoilers for season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. below.
With a cast of 10 to now service, it’s no wonder that Coulson & Co. will face no less than four threats this fall, from a growing crop of Inhumans, the Kree stone that ate Simmons, a mysterious government agency and, of course, Ward’s HYDRA reboot. “These ‘aliens’ are popping up all over the world, without anybody to guide them, so there’s a lot of fear and paranoia,” says exec producer Jeff Bell. That’s where Constance Zimmer‘s Inhumans-hunting ATCU (Advanced Threat Containment Unit) comes in. “They really are against us, which forces our team to come together,” says Bell, “whereas we were splintered last season.” Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s other concerns, Bell teases “fun stuff” on the “What happened to Jemma?” front, while Ward will go from being “a vessel of somebody else’s wrath” to his own big, bad boss. Among the good guys, Coulson may sample a “few” hands before settling on the right replacement, while online rumors of May having a diminished role are an “exaggeration,” Bell says.
One big question on the minds of fans is how season three will lead into the reported Marvel’s Most Wanted spin-off starring Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, but that won’t be answered early on it seems with Bell going on to state we will find out about it “down the road.”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3, which returns September 29th, airs at 9 PM EST on Tuesdays.
