Inhumans, the brand new series co-produced by IMAX and Marvel Television, officially has a release date. With the cast fully unveiled earlier this afternoon, IMAX has taken to twitter to confirm that the first two episodes of the series will hit IMAX theaters on September 1:

This doesn’t come as any great surprise; previous press material listed the release date for the first two episodes as “early September” or “on or around September 1,” but it’s still nice to have official confirmation. For those who might be unaware, the first two episodes of Inhumans‘s eight-episode first season are being shot entirely in IMAX, and will play in over 1,000 IMAX theaters worldwide for an exclusive two-week window before the series premieres on ABC. When the series does premiere in late September, the first two episodes will contain additional footage not included in the IMAX versions. Inhumans marks the first collaboration between IMAX and Marvel Television, but it’s unlikely to be the last. According to IMAX CEO Greg Foster, IMAX is “already looking for a second series” to get involved with. If Inhumans is as successful as Marvel and IMAX both hope, we may be entering a new era of big-screen event television!
