UPDATED: The spin-off show starring Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird) and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter) may not happen now but could in the future. Thanks to the ABC upfronts, we have new information on Season 3 of Agents of SHIELD and Season 2 of Agent Carter, and an update on the spin-offs.
ABC and Marvel are not moving forward with the spin-off because they like what these characters are bringing to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. currently. According to EW, ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee said
We absolutely love those characters on S.H.I.E.L.D. We think S.H.I.E.L.D. hit its creative stride this year,
ABC and Marvel have more than one idea for spin-off shows however. Variety was on also on call with Paul Lee who says,
It certainly is a possibility of spinning them off.
As far as the John Ridley project, Lee said,
I can’t talk about the John Ridley one, other than to say that he’s working on it.

Last month, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Marvel and ABC had joined forces with John Ridley for a secret project. Later on, Deadline revealed Marvel and ABC were planning a spinoff show that would focus on Mockingbird and Lance Hunter. Unfortunately, both of those projects have cloudy futures.
Deadline is now being told that Marvel and ABC have “put the breaks” on the spin-off series. No reasoning was given for why the spin-off starring Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood has been canned.
It seems Marvel and ABC felt more comfortable doing another season of Agent Carter, which was just renewed for a second season along with a third for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., than trying to get people behind another new property.
There are no details on the secret project with John Ridley, but that also seems unlikely at this point as his own series American Crime got picked up for a second season.
