Continuing in the fairly new tradition of absolutely interesting and inspired casting for their Disney+ shows, Marvel has cast Ginger Gonzaga in the forthcoming She-Hulk series. Per a Deadline exclusive, Gonzaga is set opposite Tatiana Maslany who has already been announced in the titular role of She-Hulk.  Not long after Deadline’s report was published did Gonzaga confirm via Twitter with an enthusiastic retweet of  Deadline’s original story posting.

Though the details of her role have been limited to that of “best friend to Jennifer Walters”, a little informed speculation might lead us to that of  “Jill Stevens”. Seasoned readers might remember that Jill Stevens met her tragic end after she was mistaken for Walters in the source material. The original casting call reported by our friends at the Illuminerdi some months back said that Marvel was looking for a BIPOC with comedic chops for the best friend role codenamed “Susie.”

While she may not be an especially recognized name by everyone, Gonzaga has quite the list of both hilarious and straight performances on the books that will likely have people remembering her face in a good way. In the least, one look at Gonzaga’s resume tells you that she is a relatively varied actress with some serious comedic chops. From Seth MacFarlane‘s Ted to some sketch turns in Comedy Central’s Key and Peele to her voice work in Robot Chicken, it’s pretty clear that Gonzaga can do comedy. That’s a good thing given that the new series is being run by Jessica Gao of Rick and Morty fame and then it has been described by some as a “legal sitcom”. With Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth set to return as Hulk and Abomination respectively, along with Maslany leading the way (legal looking briefcase in hand), the addition of Gonzaga only serves to make this even more enticing.
