The fandom plunged into a frenzy when it was announced that director James Gunn was rehired for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following his termination from the film last July. It was due to this termination that the film’s production was then postponed to an unspecified date as Kevin Feige and his team were reportedly on the lookout for Gunn’s replacement. Even though the third Guardians outing isn’t due anytime soon, there’s now a projected date for the production to begin: February 21.

According to Production Weekly, the film’s working title will be Hot Christmas. In addition to Vol. 3, Gunn is also slated to helm DC’s The Suicide Squad which may explain the continued delay. Gunn’s script for the film has been in the can for several months now and was going to be used regardless of who was directing. With the Fox acquisition now in effect, fans are hoping for Gunn to bring some of their coveted cosmic characters into the fold. It’ll be interesting to see how the 2021 production differs from what was originally planned for the film last year.
