After confirming not too long ago that production on the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy sequel would commence this week, director James Gunn has just posted a photo to his Instagram account confirming that production has officially kicked off. As it stands, prior to the start of production, the only new cast member to be confirmed was Pom Klementieff (Mantis), while Kurt Russell was rumored to be up for the role of Star Lord’s father, although there has since been no word regarding whether or not a deal was made between the actor and the studio.

Prior to confirming that Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 has officially begun filming, Gunn held a Q&A for fans on his Facebook page and answered a few questions regarding the sequel. While most of the answers weren’t entirely too revealing, Gunn did comment on Thanos’ involvement in the sequel, as well as the possibility of seeing more infinity stones. One other bit of news that he openly talked about? The fact that the Collector won’t be around for the sequel – something that Benicio Del Toro seemed unsure of not too long ago.

And while Marvel hasn’t really commented on any Guardians casting rumors up until this point, that should change shortly. With production now underway, it’s more than likely Marvel will confirm any new cast members when they release a press release within the next week or two. (Although Gunn’s comments seem to indicate it’ll be sometime next week.)

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 will hit movie theaters on May 5th, 2017.
