Good news! While reports from earlier this year indicated that Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye had been indefinitely delayed, a new report suggests that series may well be on track for its original release window – but with a catch.
According to MCU Cosmic, Hailee Steinfeld is still Marvel’s first choice for the role of Kate Bishop – but her exclusivity contract with Apple has still yet to be worked out, and with the series still moving towards its original production and air dates, the studio has had to start looking at other actresses for the role, in case Steinfeld can’t be signed in time. The site doesn’t say who these actresses are, other than the fact “both have starred in movies, one co-started in a big budget sci-if/fantasy film a couple of years ago”. While it would be a shame to lose Steinfeld, its good to know that Marvel has considered alternate options should things not work out.
In other Hawkeye-related news, MCU Cosmic also reported last week that Clint Barton’s brother, Barney Barton – better known in the comics as Trickshot – will appear in the series. Barney played a big part in the Matt Fraction‘s Hawkeye run, which looks to be a main source of inspiration for the series; so it makes sense the character would appear here.
The site also states that the Tracksuit Mafia, another feature of Fraction‘s run, will make an appearance in the series, likely in a supporting villain role. While neither of these additions would be big surprises, it’s still good news to hear nonetheless.
If the series isn’t in fact delayed, then we should probably expect to hear more news about Hawkeye as it gears up for production over the coming months. Hawkeye will drop sometime next year on Disney+.
