One of the biggest mysteries that will haunt many fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe is the secret ending of Agent Carter Season 2 that may potentially never truly be resolved. After the show ended with a major cliffhanger featuring one of the main character’s future in peril, ABC decided to cancel the show that worked as a perfect bridge while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s was on hiatus. Sadly, up to this point there have been rumours of the show potentially returning in some form, but nothing truly manifested and people are still left hanging on what the ending potentially teased. Luckily, Peggy Carter herself, Hayley Atwell, attended Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in London, where she elaborated a bit on what the potential third season would’ve been about.
Season 2 certainly opened up a lot about Carter’s secret past and gave us a look into how she became a spy. Her biggest inspiration was her brother, who fell during the war and put her on the path that would lead to her become an integral part of the events during Captain America: The First Avenger. When asked what she thinks the upcoming season could have been about, she pointed out that it may have explored this storyline a bit more.
“Season 3 could have lifted the lid on Agent Carter a little bit more, giving a chance for viewers to understand how her English upbringing had shaped her.”
She also points out that it would’ve shown her relationship with Jarvis’ family evolve further. The last season certainly opened up a lot of possibilities that would lead to Carter make a decision to settle down, potentially with Agetn Sousa, or whoever her mysterious husband is that was mentioned in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Another major aspect that may make some wonder how exactly Sharon Carter is related to her. The TV show revealed that her brother had died during the war, so there are some questions in how exactly they are releated and how exactly the events from her past influence the current timeline of the MCU. Hopefully there is the possibility that SHIELD could offer at least some answers in its upcoming fifth season that would allow Carter to get an unofficial ending.
What are your thoughts on the matter? What would you like to see in a potential Agent Carter Season 3?
