After the success of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it did not take long for ABC to add an additional show to their roster by Marvel TV, which ended up being the quasi-continuation of Captain America: The First Avenger in a show that focused on the British spy, Agent Carter. After a two season run, it sadly ended with a cliffhanger that kept many people wanting more. Ever since its cancellation last year, there have been some wondering if we will see the show get a conclusion at some point. So far, nothing really has come out of it and there is still a fan base waiting for some announcement that will see Roger’s love interest to return. IGN’s Matt Fowler got a chance to talk to Hayley Atwell during the Television Critics Association press tour about a potential return to the MCU.

“I’d love to see more in films. I’d love to see her in her own film. And if we can keep evolving it so that she does new things so that I can surprise myself and she can keep surprising me then I’d love to do it.”

Atwell has proven that she is ecstatic about playing the character and with the reveal that Captain Marvel will take place in the 90s, many believed that she would potentially return as one of the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the events. It would be great to see her return in some capacity, as the cliffhanger from the second season has many still scratching their heads. It is good to know that the actress is still happy to return to the character and it seems her attending Conventions certainly is keeping her hope for returning to the MCU alive.

“And I feel very privileged to be part of something that people really love and that entertains them. But also, you’re going to these conventions and meeting people who’ve named their son Carter and people who have a tattoo of “I Know My Value,” the tagline. She’s a force of good and there are a lot of social media sites where girls and guys have come together and become good friends on an international scale because of their belief in some of the values that Peggy talks about. And that provides them with a different connection that a family situation or school situation that they don’t really feel they have a place in. That’s really cool to me. So I’m very happy to be a part of that world and keep that going.”

Carter could be considered one of Marvel’s most influential characters, as she has become quite popular to cosplay. The iconic red hat she wore in the first season has become a staple for the character and given her role as one of the leading ladies of the MCU, she would be a great asset to help Carol Danvers find her footing as a superhero once she adopts the title of Captain Marvel. Atwell did comment on the possibility of her returning and the surprise when her show was canceled a year ago.

“You know Marvel and all the creatives behind the making of the show loved it,” Atwell explained. “And we loved it. We all loved making it. It was a network political thing. They wanted to put me in something mainstream [Conviction] to get their ratings up rather than something that was more genre specific. There were a lot of economic decisions behind it and I wasn’t a part of the conversation. So we were all really surprised about that because we kind of got the sense that people were liking it. It had this cult following. So I know there’ve been online campaigns for it and the fact that we know that she lives until the age of 96 means that technically I could be employed for the rest of my life, you know.”

At the moment, it is still difficult to say if we can hope for a return from the character and a resolution to her show. We have seen her appear in SHIELD, which would open up the possibility for her story to be finished through that show’s upcoming fifth season and there is a lot of potentials for her to make an appearance in Captain Marvel. For now, we will have to wait and see what Marvel will surprise us with in the upcoming films and TV shows.

What do you think? Where would you hope to see Carter return?
