Marvel is no stranger to making use of existing mythology from human history. Up until this point, the films have mainly focused on Norse mythology with Thor getting a film or series. Outside of some references here and there, they didn’t delve too deep into Marvel’s reinterpretation of classic mythological icons. The upcoming Eternals will open the floodgates into the MCU’s overall history and is a jumping-on point for them to explore this aspect of their world. There even was a rumor that Hercules would be included in the film until it was denied later on. Still, the Greek half-god still has a future in the franchise, as a new rumor is teasing his future in the franchise.

According to The Cinema Spot, Marvel Studios will make his live-action debut “in the near future”. They do not offer any real details outside of him being either a supporting character like Hulk or even the lead role in his own project. This addition to the overall roster makes sense given his connection as a prominent member of the Avengers in the comics. He even was well-known for his rivalry with Thor, who will return in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Speaking of, this film might be a great jumping-on point for the character. There are rumors of the Minotaur, a character with Greek ties, as the main villain would offer the best jumping on point for the character. Their rivalry would continue the dynamic that was set-up with Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok and we could explore how Norse and Greek mythology lived parallel on earth. If not Thor, the upcoming Loki series is also a potential candidate to explore these aspects. While I do believe he is a better fit for a supporting role, it would be fun to see Hercules given his own Disney+ show, where he just travels the world to compete with the strongest warriors. It ending in a fight with Hulk seems like a fun idea to also give that character more screentime in the MCU moving forward. If this rumor pans out, it will be interesting to see how the next saga takes shape.

What do you think? Where do you think Hercules should make his debut?
