The duo of Iron Fist and Luke Cage is as iconic as any comic book duo can get. To me, the Heroes for Hire tandem is on par with the likes of World’s Finest, Blue Beetle & Booster Gold, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. They’ve been such a staple in this particular era of comics books that when it was announced that Iron Fist and Luke Cage were being brought to the small screen, people wondered if a Heroes For Hire crossover was possible, now that it was being set in an interconnected universe. Well, Finn Jones and Mike Colter are both wondering the same thing. Speaking at Houston’s Comicpalooza last weekend, the two Defenders stars expressed in their interest in seeing Heroes For Hire come to fruition one day, teasing the dynamic they have in the much awaited team-up show this August:

MIKE: We’re gonna start a fundraiser for Heroes for Hire (laughs)

FINN: It’s really interesting how we meet the first time. Without spoiling too much, at first we don’t see eye to eye. We come from very different backgrounds. And we kind of question each other’s ethics especially Luke to Danny. Danny is super hot-headed. Always the first to jump the gun and be very reckless. And Luke is kind of there to settle me down a little bit. So I kind of see Luke as the coach to Danny.

MIKE: I think the scenes with Danny and Luke are some of the best scenes we have in the series. You’ve seen the trailer so you’ve seen the fist in my face. There’s some cool stuff in there. It’s a good dynamic.

FINN: And they’ve done it right. They don’t just jump right into it. It’s a slow burn, a slow build. And you understand where these characters and these worlds are coming from so when they collide, it feels very real. It feels very relevant. And I really hope we see a Heroes For Hire.

MIKE: They’re making it in 2027 (laughs)

Mike Colter addressed the same thing several months back implying that it was happening for a fact, “We’re going to be getting ready to do Heroes for Hire eventually. We’re going to do it.” Judging from his comments last weekend, it’s clear that those comments from way back were based on personal conjecture. But regardless, I am still onboard for this.

The dynamic between Danny and Luke that keeps being teased will no doubt add fuel to the fiery outcry for Heroes for Hire. The fact that it’s a slow burn and is described as “very real and relevant” is an indication that we’ll actually see their relationships with each other progress into something organic. A Heroes For Hire show could potentially be a much bigger draw for fans, especially now with the barely lukewarm reaction for Iron Fist and the polarizing half of Luke Cage. Having 2 shows fold into one mega team-up show would also leave the Marvel/Netflix slate open for new shows, instead of piling seasons on top of each other.

Big thanks to our good friends and former collaborators at the It’s All Connected Podcast for hooking us up with the audio recording of the panel. You can check out their podcasts over at HHWLOD!
