Well, Robert Downey Jr. anyways.

Possible spoilers for Captain America: Civil War ahead…

On the press tour for his new indie film Infinitely Polar Bear, Mark Ruffalo revealed that he will indeed be appearing in Captain America: Civil War …or rather, that Robert Downey Jr. has told him he will.

Speaking to HitFlix, Ruffalo said

“If Robert Downey, Jr. says I’m in Captain America, I’m in Captain America dammit! And I will wait for the day that my call sheet shows up at my doorstep or my script. At this point, I’m told that I’m in it by Robert, which I’ll take as biblical, but I just haven’t heard or seen from production yet.”

With principal photography on Civil War set to wrap in just six weeks, is it possible that Ruffalo could still appear as the Hulk, and not even be aware of it? Sure. Actors are frequently kept in the dark about the full scope of a blockbuster film, and if Hulk’s role is relatively small, perhaps all they need Ruffalo for is a few days of Mo-Cap and some voice overs (though Lou Ferrigno helps voice Hulk’s grunts and roars, it was apparently Ruffalo who provided Hulk’s only true line of dialogue so far – the iconic “puny god” from The Avengers).

So what could bring back the Hulk from the tropical vacation he seems to have embarked on at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron? We recently reported that the Red Hulk is set to debut in Captain America: Civil War. Might the unregistered Avengers need a hero who can stand up to the government’s new monster – a feat only possible for “the strongest one there is?” We won’t know for sure until May 6, 2016, but until that time, check out our previous coverage of Captain America: Civil War and stay tuned to MCU Exchange for the best MCU news and commentary!
