It looks like that we will get a bit more history on an Infinity Stone will be featured in Captain Marvel. Mashable got the chance to visit the set and find out what we can expect from the upcoming release and it looks like the ever-present Tesseract or Space Stone will make its return. To highlight the relationship between Nick Fury and Carol Danvers, they were shown a sequence from the film’s third act that takes place on an alien spaceship. The scene was given the following description.

As the pair prepare to fight their way off an alien spaceship (which Jackson cryptically described as belonging to “a doctor from Carol Danvers’ past”), Carol instructs him to “take the Tesseract, leave the lunchbox” while she runs off to buy him some time.

The scene sounds like a lot of fun, especially because I would like to know why Fury is holding on to a lunchbox in the middle of a fight on an alien spaceship. Still, the Tesseract being added to the film does make sense if we follow the breadcrumbs hidden throughout the trailers. First, we know that Howard Stark found it in the ocean while searching for Steve Rogers. He is a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. so it makes sense for it to be hidden somewhere at the organization. We know that the Skrull Talos is hiding out as Nick Fury’s boss so he would be informed of its whereabouts. Moreover, we see Fury and Carol taking a prototype Quinjet from what looks like the Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. sight from The Avengers. It all fits together and we could see an all-out war between the Kree, the Skrulls, and the Danvers-Fury duo. Yet, the casual way they are revealing something that may be a significant plot detail could also hint at it is just being an easter egg thrown in for the third act.

What do you think of them including the Tesseract in Captain Marvel?
