There’s been a lot of talk lately about the potential involvement of the MCU TV shows in Avengers: Infinity War. While the Russo Brothers have since denied any overlap between the two separate divisions of the MCU, the showrunners of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. remain optimistic and continue to tease the effect of the Avengers: Infinity War with the remaining episodes of the season. Speaking to a room full of fans at WonderCon, showrunner Jed Whedon said:

If you watched the trailer, a lot of sh*t goes down! These are the kinds of questions we can do everything but answer. The movies blaze a path. When Doctor Strange came out it introduced us to magic which gave us Ghost Rider; when [Guardians of the Galaxy] came out, we were introduced to space. We are waiting for that movie to come out so it can open a new playground for us.

It’ll be interesting to see just how Thanos’ quest for the stones will intersect with the current story line. The fifth season opened with a cosmic tease of an impending catastrophic event headed to Earth in the future, which fans speculated to be the aftermath of Infinity War. The catastrophe has since been revealed to be the doing of SHIELD’s very own Quake, the Destroyer of Worlds. Currently, Coulson’s team is back on present-day Earth dealing familiar threats in the form of HYDRA. HYDRA and Thanos don’t necessarily have lots of things in common so we find it hard to imagine how that could pave way for an Infinity War crossover. Maybe the playground Infinity War opens for SHIELD has something to do with the stones? Then again, we’ve already seen an alternate-universe take on the show last season with the Framework.

How do you think Avengers: Infinity War will affect this season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
