Whelp, this isn’t unexpected. In fact, for many it was very much expected.
Inhumans has been cancelled after a critically panned first (and now only) season by ABC. This is the first time since Agent Carter that a Marvel show has been cancelled, but unlike Ms. Carter I don’t imagine the Inhumans will be as sorely missed.
So, what does this mean for the property as it pertains to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It was originally meant to be a movie released on July 12, 2019, but that fell through with the restructuring of Marvel Studios and the removal of Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter overseeing development. Kevin Feige did propose way back in 2016 that it could still happen as a movie in a theoretical Phase Four.
“I don’t know when. I think it’s happening on television. And I think as we get into Phase Four as I’ve always said, it could happen as a movie. I think it would be super cool.”
Would Marvel Studios simply recast the characters and start fresh? Or will they simply leave them behind pretending it never happened, considering the X-Men and Eternals seem to be close on the horizon?
