Can’t they just get along?

Last year, Captain America: Civil War gave us something truly insane: an epic showdown between two of our favorite characters. And like any family dispute, Marvel forced us to pick a side: Team Iron-Man or Team Cap. What made that movie and its story line all the more interesting is that neither character was wrong. Both characters had logical arguments and motivations for their points of view, making the fan’s decision to have to pick a side all the more difficult. When Steve Rogers sends Tony Stark a private cell phone at the end of the movie, we expected things to be more or less worked out.

Well, if you were expecting them to hold hands and sing “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” when Avengers: Infinity War rolls around next summer, don’t get comfortable just yet. It looks like the Russo Brothers might be back at it again…

In a recent interview with USA Today, Robert Downey Jr. had an interesting comment to make about his costar Chris Evans in the upcoming film:

That’s the hardest for me, because I look at Evans and I just to want to go over and smell him or tell him he looks cool in those sunglasses when he’s walking over to have lunch. And then I’m just staring daggers at him, getting mad. But even that relationship is going to take a turn.

Alright, first things first. Let’s all take a moment to acknowledge Downey Jr.’s fangirl-level desire to smell Chris Evans, who most certainly smells like leather and bald eagle musk. Now that that’s out of the way, does this quote mean that Tony and Steve are going to be squaring off against each other again?

If you look closely in the trailer for Infinity War, you might spot Tony holding the exact same cell phone that Steve Rogers gave him at the end of Civil War (see below). We might assume that this means he will be giving his old friend a call to help defend the earth from Thanos. But, as it turns out, he might just be calling him to express his frustrations that Cap’s new beard is stealing his thunder in the facial hair game.

Will they fight again? We will have to wait and see when Avengers: Infinity War airs in theaters on May 4, 2018.
