It seems like the rumor from earlier this year was wrong and C. Robert Cargill will not return to write the Doctor Strange sequel. Instead, the original report from The Hollywood Reporter was correct about Marvel Studios looking for a new writer. Well, they found her. Jade Bartlett, who’s script Miller’s Girl was voted into the 2016 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays, will write. Miller’s Girl is about a young writer becoming involved with her high school creative writing teacher in a dark coming-of-age drama that explores the relationship between professor and protégé.

Now, Wanda won’t pursue a romantic relationship with Strange, I hope, but it seems like Jade Bartlett was possibly brought on for writing a similar dynamic they might employee in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. The relationship between a teacher, Strange, and a student, Wanda. Which could very well spiral into something darker, like in her black list script.

However, it is still unclear whether or not Scott Derrickson will also contribute to writing. Which would be odd if he didn’t since he’s only directed one movie he hasn’t also written, The Day the Earth Stood Still. So, it could very well be the case of it being a solo-effort on the part of Jade Barlett.

How do you feel about Cargill not returning to write?
