Over the past few months, we’ve gained plenty of information regarding the upcoming third installment in the Thor franchise, Thor: Ragnarok which will be directed by Taika Waititi. We know that Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk will appear, that Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki will return, and that Cate Blanchett is basically all but confirmed to appear. When it comes to the Lady Sif, (), and (), it’s been rather up in the air regarding their returns. In the past, Jaimie Alexander‘s Sif seemed like a lock, while Ray Stevenson (Volstagg) and Zachary Levi (Fandral) had yet to hear anything regarding their return for the film. Now, it looks as though Sif may no longer be as confirmed as we thought her to be.
With Alexander now starring in her own television series, which has been performing well on a weekly basis, it may be difficult for her to work filming on Ragnarok into her schedule… should her character be needed, that is. While doing the press rounds for her series, Blindspot, she was asked her about her involvement in Ragnarok, to which she replied:
“I am not 100% sure at this moment,” she admits. “I know that they’re changing things with the script and that sort of thing, so I am literally in limbo. I know probably less than you do about it. I would love to do it, but whether or not it’s going to work on my short hiatus from Blindspot I’m not sure. There could be a lot of factors when it comes to that decision.”
However, while she’s uncertain of any possible return for the moment, Alexander does hope for the chance to play her again.
“If I get to play her again,” she adds, “it’s absolutely gravy. That’s why when Marvel asked me if I would cross the Thor films into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., I said yes. I love Clark Gregg; he is a fantastic guy and that whole cast is wonderful. They’re such a great, tight family over there and they’re more than welcoming. I also got to explore more of who Sif really is, and play around with humor a little bit with her, which I didn’t really get a chance to do in the films.”
While Jaime is doing a great job on Blindspot, she is such a constant in the MCU that it would be great to see her back in the Thor movies. Here’s to hoping she can fit it into her schedule as Thor: Ragnarok is set to begin production this June!
