Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt and Guardians director James Gunn recently sat down with Nerdist to promote their highly anticipated sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In their interview, the duo offered a glimpse of what fans can expect to see when their favorite cosmic misfits meet Earth’s Mightest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War:
“We definitely will have a strong presence,” says Pratt, “but we are playing supporting cast – you know what I mean? We’re there to help them tell an awesome Infinity War story. But Guardians is cosmic. It is its own special off-shoot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Gunn, the undisputed architect of the Marvel Cosmic Universe, further elaborated on his and the Guardians roles moving toward the culmination of the MCU in Infinity War:
“I’m incredibly involved in what happens in Infinity War with the Guardians. I mean, they’re supporting players. That’s still an Avengers movie, but yeah, very involved. I feel connected to them, but mostly I think that I have a great partnership with Marvel and they come to me and say, ‘How can we make this movie even better?’ So I try to help as much as possible.”
The director has repeatedly stated in the past his intentions to keep the Guardians cosmic stories independent from the events that transpire in the world of the Avengers, but lest we forget; it’s all connected. It’s safe to say that Gunn’s involvement with the Russo brothers in Avengers: Infinity War is good news for fans eager to see these two worlds collide.
