For many fans, Dave Bautista’s Drax may have stolen the show in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a film about which Marvel Studios was so confident they announced a sequel before its premiere. At that time, director James Gunn mentioned that he had a pretty good outline for a sequel in place and teased that there was “a lot of stuff about Drax that nobody knows,” indicating that the Destroyer would potentially play a large role in the sequel.

Fast forward to the 3rd of December, 2016 and the first teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Despite an incredibly adorable baby Groot, the absolutely ridiculous scene in which Drax hysterically mocks Peter Quill for having his deepest, darkest secrets revealed before his friends, before BEGGING to have the same done to him, steals the show. According to Gunn, fans might want to get used to it as it appears Bautista, who celebrated his 48th birthday yesterday (yeah, that’s right, that animal is 48 and looks like that still), has upped his game considerably for the sequel. “He’s been blowing people’s minds in our early screenings of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 – exponentially increasing the raw emotion and humor he displayed in the first movie,” said the director.

Gunn isn’t really prone to hyperbole and this isn’t the first time we’ve heard Bautista’s acting ability praised in relation to this sequel. It’s safe to say that Drax, who we’ve seen grow enough to make an actual metaphor in the sneak peek, is going to deliver more than just what we’ve seen so far in the footage.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017!
