Jayanth Jambulingam “Jay” Chandrasekhar has quite a track record. He has a career as an actor, writer, and director dating back to 1996. He is now getting quite a bit of attention as he returned to the director’s chair for the long-awaited sequel Super Troopers 2 after having directed the first. He also has directed quite a few TV episodes for New Girl, Community, Chuck and Psych. The fact that he has some history with former Community and current Avengers 4 directors Joe and Anthony Russo could help him have a chance at working for Marvel Studios. According to Syfy Wire, talks have already started and there seem to be talks between him and the studio. The first step in becoming involved with Marvel seems to be getting an honorary Marvel Encyclopedia.

“They sent me the Marvel Encyclopedia and they said, what do you guys want to do? So, it’s upstairs. My kid’s going through it. And he’s going to make a list of what he thinks we should do, and I’ll go through it. I’m curious to see what a 13-year-old’s mind comes up with. It arrived a few days ago. We just had a general meeting. I’m sure I’m not the only one.”

The interesting comment is the “you guys”. Chandrasekhar is actually part of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe that were all involved with the films Super Troopers and Beerfest. Their style of comedy is quite different from what we are used to in the MCU but they are certainly showing a trend to create some more creative films. Their brand of comedy seems like a perfect fit for a very out-there concept such as the Great Lakes Avengers. A group of ragtag heroes that have a problem establishing themselves as true heroes. Squirrel Girl and Mr. Immortal a.k.a. Craig Hollis will appear in New Warriors, which is still looking for a network, so anything is possible. It does seem like they are trying to see what ideas he comes up with as they meet with various potential directors for the post-Phase 4 MCU. Will be interesting to see what kind of films might expand the MCU in the near future.

What are your thoughts on it? What do you think he should direct?
