Marvel has an impressive lineup on Netflix, with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and now The Punisher. So far, fans have wanted more of everything they have seen, and we have only seen two of the six series. With such a full line-up it is easy to think that the promised second season of Jessica Jones may have fallen through the cracks. However, while the wait has been long, the show is definitely not forgotten.
And while we’ll see Jessica next in The Defenders, which will begin filming at the end of this summer, Ritter is already thinking ahead to the show’s second season. In a recent discussion with Collider, Jessica herself, Krysten Ritter, has said that she has high hopes for the future of the hard-drinking private investigator.
I’m excited to see what happens next for Jessica, and the end of season one left a lot of doors open and questions unanswered. Kilgrave was her reason for getting up every morning. Saving people gave her purpose. I wonder how emotionally taxed she’s going to be now. That opens a lot of doors as to who will come out and play. We all live in the same universe, so there are endless possibilities.
As I’ve mentioned before, my favorite subject is the timeline of Netflix’s release schedule for Marvel properties. Ritter went on to give a little more information confirming the order of filming that was expected. In regards to the filming of The Defenders and Jessica Jones, Ritter is going to be very, very busy later this year.
They’ll be back-to-back. I don’t know if they’ll overlap a little bit. It’s about to be a serious undertaking. I’m starting my physical training—lots of weight training and boxing.
And while we know she’ll be returning in next year’s The Defenders, it’s possible that we won’t have to wait until 2017 to see Jessica Jones on Netflix again. Her relationship with Luke Cage, who was introduced in Jessica Jones season one, could mean that she shows up in his stand-alone series, premiering on September 30th. Where does Jessica stand in regards to his world?
Marvel have this grand plan. Luke Cage will come out, then Iron Fist. In terms of scheduling I don’t know how it will all come out and I can’t even tell you if I’ve filmed Luke Cage. But I’m excited for Mike to have his own show. I know the tone of that show is going to be very different.
With the addition of The Punisher to the Netflix line-up, it is hard to continue to guess the order, and timeline, of the release of new seasons of shows. The Punisher is set to begin filming simultaneously with The Defenders, which means that it may be released before the second season of Jessica Jones. There is no way that Marvel can stick to their earlier plan to only release one show every six months with this much filming. I definitely look forward to them releasing an official schedule, so I can start planning work vacations, (even if they are two years out) in advance.
Are you excited to know that Jessica Jones will finally be filming a second season later this year? Let us know, in the comments!
