Da 5 Bloods and Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors has reportedly been cast in Ant-Man 3 as Kang the Conqueror, this according to Deadline. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten casting news this big but holy shit, it is pretty wild.
The studio had no comment, but sources close to the project say he is likely to play the super-villain Kang the Conquer. Sources add that like with so many new characters in the MCU, there could be a twist with how the character is featured in future films, but as of now he is likely to be one of the main villains in the next installment in the franchise.
There’s a lot to take in here but let’s start with the biggest WTF: Kang potentially being part of Ant-Man 3. I think it’s safe to say this franchise isn’t the first one fans think of when talking about the MCU debut of the legendary Avengers villain. However, it makes sense given the time travel elements of the franchise and how the Pym Particles were used in Avengers: Endgame. The Loki series will purportedly deal with the ramifications of MCU time travel so I wonder if that’s where we see Kang pop up first. I also wonder if the twist here is that he’s masquerading as a different character ala Iron Lad. Also, comic fans are aware of Kang’s connection to Mr. Fantastic. Him finally getting introduced in the MCU is the most concrete connection to the First Family so far. Second, Jonathan Majors is a fantastic actor. I’ve been watching Lovecraft Country these past weeks and I adored Spike Lee‘s Da 5 Bloods so I’m hella hyped that Majors is in the MCU.
