Back in 2012, when the credits where rolling on The Avengers, a cut away to a distant throne got everyone excited about what, or more importantly, who was on his way to the MCU. That was our first glimpse at Thanos, with his quick smirk leaving everyone wondering what was in store for him and how it would affect our heroes.
Jump ahead to 2016 and we have still not truly seen what Thanos is all about. He has lost his right hand man courtesy of Ronan and moved along to get his hands on one of the Infinity Gauntlets, but he still being set up to this point.
His appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy gave us our most extensive look at him yet, which required Marvel to pick an actor for the role. They wound up casting Josh Brolin as the Mad Titan and his schedule will be pretty full with Avengers: Infinity War shooting later this year.
Brolin recently spoke with Superhero Hype about joining the MCU and what he does for the role,
It’s not voice work, it’s mo-cap. I’m there. I’m there and I’m not in a booth. I’m being filmed. I have a bunch of crap on my face. [laughs] I’m being filmed by like thirty-four cameras? Thirty-six cameras? Something like that. Every movement, everything. So, it’s very new to me, it’s very exciting, it’s very unnerving. But I sure trust these guys! You know? We’re supposed to get together very soon to talk about the trajectory of Thanos in the next few years and it’s very exciting. It’s one of the better decisions I think I’ve made.
Brolin and Marvel have a tough task at hand making sure Thanos lives up to the hype that has been building around the character for 4 years at this point. I am supremely confident that they will deliver and make Thanos one of the greatest villains in MCU history, and hopefully one that will still be a threat past Infinity War.
