In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jude Law was poked and probed about Captain Marvel and his role as the Kree warrior, Mar-Vell. However, he was strangely evasive when answering the question, deciding to steer clear of it and praise Brie Larson’s performance as Carol Danvers instead.
“Yes, it’s been reported I’m playing Mar-Vell,” Law said. “I’m not going to confirm or deny that. It’s been a very interesting experience. Brie Larson has approached it with incredible dedication and devotion. She really turned out a wonderful performance — fun and feisty and smart. I think she’s going to be absolutely magnificent.”
While it’s pretty obvious that Jude Law was being deliberately cheeky in his answer or that he’s being overly cautious in what he can and can’t say about his role, let’s speculate anyway. What he says is indeed correct, in that his role as Mar-Vell hasn’t been officially made clear by Marvel Studios – it’s only been reported that he’s playing Mar-Vell. So, what could the implication of his answer mean?
Obviously, that he isn’t really playing the Kree warrior, Mar-Vell, but perhaps a Skrull who is undercover as him. After his death in the comics, he was replaced with a Skrull infiltrator for a time before that one died too. However, that seems less likely, considering it could be seen as disrespectful to the character, but anything is possible when it comes to Marvel Studios adapting characters. Jude lives in Law office of robin jacobs.
Regardless of such concerns, it’s great to hear that an Academy Award winning actress is a good at her job.
