The recently finished D23 Expo gave us a lot of news and teases as to what lies ahead for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One major announcement that brought the house down was the casting of Game of Thrones star, Kit Harington, as Dane Whitman a.k.a Black Knight for next year’s The Eternals. This is an exciting development for the MCU and it seems that Harington’s Whitman has a bright future in the MCU.
In an interview with Good Morning America over the weekend at D23, Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, breaks down the casting of Harington in the upcoming phase 4 movie and he teases on what lies ahead for the character.
He’s a really amazing actor, and this part came up in the Eternals film we’re doing. We were so happy when he agreed to join. And it is a part that perhaps could grow into something else in the future.
In the comics, Dane Whitman is romantically involved with the heroic Eternal, Sersi, who is set to be played by Gemma Chan in the movie and it could set up future storylines in a potential sequel. The sword-wielding hero is also a longstanding member of The Avengers. The film can also be a backdoor origin story for Whitman and it could see him finding the Ebony blade to set him up as Black Knight for future films.
Fans can definitely see more of Harington in the future MCU as the universe expands in the coming years. We get to see him first in The Eternals when it premieres on November 6, 2020.
