We’re just over ten months away from the release of Avengers: Infinity War, and the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. This film will totally shake the foundations of the MCU. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige already seemingly confirmed earlier this week that not everyone in Infinity War will live to fight another day, with many speculating that Captain America and Iron Man are likely the first to lose their lives fighting to defend the earth from Thanos. That alone, coupled with the unprecedented scale of the film ensures that this will be a cinematic experience unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Now, the big question is: when will we get a trailer? Feige was able to give us a vague answer while on the press circuit for Spider-Man: Homecoming:
“It’s a good question,” Feige said. “I’m not sure. I think it would be late summer, early, mid fall? Ragnarok, probably.”
Feige usually has everything planned out to the letter, so this may be a tease for the fans, but he may legitimately not know yet. The reason this is more complicated this time around is because of the timing of the two remaining films after Homecoming that are set to be released before Infinity War (Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther). This is the first time that Marvel Studios has released three films within the same year, and given that Thor and Black Panther will both likely play key roles in the events of the third Avengers film, the trailer may not be released until after Ragnarok has been in theaters for a bit in order to avoid spoiling the events of Thor’s third solo outing. It’s a good problem to have, but let’s be optimistic here and speculate that the trailer hits mid summer like Feige suggested. If that is the case, it’s likely that some sort of teaser footage will drop either at the D23 Expo on July 14-16, or at San Diego Comic Con on July 20-23. Either way, I wouldn’t expect a full length trailer to drop any earlier than the fall, as teaser footage is more likely to debut first.
