In 2014, Marvel Studios released the “Phase 3” lineup for Marvel movies that would come out through 2019. This was a very ambitious long-term plan that included actual release dates for films such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans – all properties fans were eager to see join the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. Since that announcement, there have been very little adjustments to the film franchise release dates, but new films, such as the (untitled) Spider-Man reboot and Ant Man and The Wasp have been added. With those additions, a few films had to find new release dates. One of those films that saw various changes to its release date was the upcoming Inhumans film.

Kevin Feige, MCU overlord at Marvel Studios, says that Inhumans – which has seen rumors suggesting the film would ultimately be canned – is still happening, but may be delayed because of recent developments in the MCU, as well as the upcoming release of the latest Indiana Jones film from Disney. During the press tour for Captain America: Civil War, he gave the following comments to Collider regarding the film’s release date.

Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.

This, of course, led to Collider verifying that they still had plans to produce the film, even if it was delayed, to which Feige verified that it’s still on the schedule.

But it’s not a matter of “they’re already doing that on TV, we’re not doing it?”

No, It’s a question of when.

While it is nice to see the Inhuman story-line in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., many fans are still excited for the royal family to get their own movie, with a larger budget for special effects. Hopefully this news will come soon, and stay tuned to the MCU Exchange, because we will let you know when it does!
