If there’s one thing Marvel is great at, it’s casting. From the roles played by relatively unknown actors to characters portrayed by superstars, Marvel almost always gets it right. With the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, Marvel has enlisted some top-notch talent, including Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet/StarLord’s father.
Russell recently visited the Toronto International Film Festival and spoke with Fandango regarding his time on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
We had a great time on that film — it was a lot of fun. Great experience. That guy James Gunn really knows what he’s doing; he’s real sharp. And all the cast is great — I had a great time working with Chris [Pratt].
While Russell didn’t reveal anything new regarding his role in the film, besides what we already know, he did briefly hint at how his character and Chris Pratt‘s Star-Lord would interact on screen. He teased that Star-Lord would be on an emotional roller coaster throughout the film as he came to terms with who his father was.
Kids always put their parents on a pedestal. Well, what happens when they don’t turn out to be the people you want them to be?
The final thing that Russell spoke about was his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and if he would appear in further movies. For now, it’s unclear if he will, especially given the fact that no more Guardians films are currently planned until after Avengers: Infinity War.
What you’d have to do is put your mind to it. You have to sit down and say, these are my issues — these are my questions. I’m an audience too. We all run into our own integrity no matter what, as much as I hate to admit it. I need to find a way that this is going to grow and be fun and most of all for me it needs to be fun to find as we go along. Right now I got part of it — we have to see. I don’t know. I don’t know if I fit into that mold.
You can catch Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, releasing in theaters May 5th, 2017.
