We knew for some time now that one series regular would be returning once again to the latest season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as Marvel announced the return of Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) since his spy farewell back in the show’s third season. We finally have the confirmation when we can expect his return, as the synopsis for the fifth episode “Rewind” reveals his return to the show. It is important that the press release also reveals a heavy reveal from the show’s fifth season premiere. If you have not seen the episode yet or want to be spoiled continue reading at your own risk.

Nick Blood Returns as Lance Hunter

“Rewind” – With the surprising help of Lance Hunter, nothing will stop Fitz from finding the lost team as his incredible journey is revealed, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” FRIDAY, DEC. 22 (9:01-10:01 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie and Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez.

Guest starring are Nick Blood as Lance Hunter, Joel Stoffer as Enoch, Catherine Dent as General Hale, Lola Glaudini as Polly Hinton, Lexy Kolker as Robin Hinton, Zibby Allen as Lt. Evans, Joy Layton as Lt. Lucas, Delpaneaux Wills as forensic officer, Anthony Bless as MP guard and Asante Jones as security guard.

”Rewind” was written by Craig Titley and directed by Jesse Bochco.

The title already reveals that this episode may take place shortly after everyone was abducted. Fitz was not on a list and was left behind in the diner to pay off his friend’s pie tab. It also does not seem like he was planning on meeting Hunter, so it will be interesting to see what brings them together. If you look closely none of the “space” characters are mentioned in the press release, which hints at this being an episode that takes place on earth. We may hopefully find out who the organization was that brought the team to the white obelisk.

Hopefully, we get to see Hunter in a longer story arc. Given their history, it would not be too surprising that he helps out Fitz so that he can find out what exactly happened to the others. We could see him get help from other allies that they met in the past so we could see some more familiar faces return. Ian De Caestecker has given some of the show’s most iconic moments and he can hold his own storyline throughout the season that ties together a lot of plot elements from the past. It will be quite interesting to see where the show heads this season.

Are you looking forward to his return? What do you think will bring them together?
