Coulson and his crew just managed to survive the emotional chaos that was the 100th episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but it seems that they won’t be enjoying their peace and quiet for long. The press release for episode 15 of the current season was just released as a lot of familiar characters are making their return in the upcoming season. “Rise and Shine” reveals to us what General Hale is truly up to with her S.H.I.E.L.D. witchhunt. Moreover, there seems to be a deeper connection to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s biggest adversary that may finally be revealed as some familiar MCU faces make a surprising return.

Let us go through the press release one interesting surprise after another. The biggest twist is the fact that Coulson and his crew have to help General Hale to ensure that the world will not end up in pieces. Quite an unexpected reveal that builds on Ruby’s question if they are the good guys. Perhaps the team she is putting together is not meant to take down S.H.I.E.L.D. but rather a still unknown villain. There might be a larger plot connected to the world’s fate that is yet to be revealed. Moreover, this is our first true hint at them potentially breaking the circle that keeps the world in a constant loop of destruction. Personally, I am still holding out for Graviton making an appearance. This press release highlights more and more elements from the last seasons making a return. So, maybe Hale is putting together a version of the Secret Warriors to battle this still unknown foe.
Now, let us get to the most interesting reveal. We get the return of Glenn Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) who has been stuck in a coma since the attack of LMD Daisy in the last season. His family is also returning, so we might get a sequence of him finally waking up and maybe getting back into the action. It also teases a flashback with a teenage Hale alongside a rather interesting cast of familiar faces. Finally, Reed Diamond returns as Daniel Whitehall alongside a teenage Baron Von Strucker and Jasper Sitwell. The age difference makes sense given Whitehall’s history from the second season. This means that Hale might have a deeper connection to HYDRA, especially with only these three characters being specifically described as teenagers. We will also get a bit more history on the organization and character-development for deceased characters of the MCU. It would not be a season of SHIELD without HYDRA making an appearance in some manner.
Are you excited about this reveal? What do you think their history is?
