The highly anticipated soundtrack album for the highly anticipated Black Panther film has been available for hip hop heads since last Friday, February 9. Produced by Kendrick Lamar, this release has been hyped up for quite some time, with the release of singles ‘All The Stars,’ ‘King’s Dead’ and ‘Pray For Me.’ ‘All The Stars’ recently had an accompanying music video.

It’s likely you’ve already heard the story behind the spark of the album (per NPR): Lamar offered to contribute a few songs to the film, but upon being screened the film by director/co-writer Ryan Coogler, Lamar’s ambitions grew, and the rapper decided to curate the entire album himself. Bringing in several guest artists and collaborators, Lamar can actually be heard in all fourteen tracks of the album.

Personally, I’ve had this album on a loop since its release last weekend. My personal favorite tracks include ‘All The Stars’, ‘X’, ‘The Ways’ and ‘Paramedic!’ Admittedly, Future’s part in ‘King’s Dead’ does take me out a bit. (“La di da di da, slob on me knob”?)

The album is available on iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Google Play and Spotify.
