For fans of Captain Marvel, this week has been full of plenty of rumors regarding when she’ll actually show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Her solo movie was originally slated for July 6th, 2018, but ended up getting moved to November 2, 2018 when Marvel and Sony announced their deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s still over three years away. Now, typically this would mean that we wouldn’t expect to see the character cast this early on, but since last year, Captain Marvel (at the time, still referred to as Ms. Marvel in the older drafts for AoU) was rumored to make an appearance in this summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultrons.
Earlier this week, Latino-Review reported that they’d heard the role of Captain Marvel had been cast. (You can read about that here.) And while it seemed rather early to have Carol cast already, it made sense. Carol had been rumored to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron for some time now in a cameo role, one they could have easily filmed without issue. But today’s latest Captain Marvel rumor suggests it’ll still be quite some time before we see Carol on the big screen.
Latino-Review did point out that the Captain Marvel casting was still a rumor, so it was never really official, but given their track record with Marvel scoops it seemed plausible. According to HitFix, however, there are no plans to include the character in the Avengers sequel.
Now, HitFix isn’t someone I usually follow for their scoops, but they have been right in the past. For one, they were one of the few sites reporting the Marvel/Sony rumors back in December. So while I wouldn’t write this one off, I’m still iffy on this one.
If she doesn’t appear in Age of Ultron, my guess is that she’ll be introduced using a credit stinger for either Guardians of the Galaxy 2 or Thor: Ragnarok, with Guardians being the more logical choice. (Again, this part is just speculation.) Gunn has already stated that she won’t appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but that wouldn’t rule out bringing her in using a credit stinger.
At this point, though, the only way we’ll know for sure if Captain Marvel is in Avengers: Age of Ultron is to watch it when it comes out on May 1st. 😉
Moving on to the other Captain Marvel rumor to hit this week, this one courtesy of Jeff Sneider from The Wrap.
While hosting his weekly Meet the Movie Press show, Sneider revealed that the director for Captain Marvel will definitely be a female. He goes on to mention he has heard that it currently down to two female directors for Captain Marvel, and that we should start hearing names for Black Panther and Captain Marvel by the summer!
