In early June we saw Lucy Liu on the set of Luke Cage and speculated that she might be directing an episode of the show’s sophomore season; today, Marvel was kind enough to confirm that Liu is directing the Season 2 premiere which will hit Netflix sometime in 2018.

Liu, who has experience directing both her current CBS show, Elementary, and a short film, Meena, seems pretty happy to be working on an episode of Harlem’s hero, saying of the job, “What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint our world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters. It is such an honor to work with such a passionate and fearless team.

Jeph Loeb, the man behind the beguiling characters on Netflix, knows Liu is the right person for the job. “When you’re dealing with a bulletproof man, it helps if you have a bulletproof Director,” said the Marvel TV’s head honcho. “Lucy brings a keen eye, a superb sense of story, and an obvious love of actors.  She is rocking Luke Cage 2.” While I couldn’t say I could pinpoint which episodes of Elementary are Liu’s, I can say that she is brilliantly funny and talented in front of the camera and can imagine she’s going to bring us a fresh look at Cage in her Season 2 episode.

With production underway now, it’s likely that we’ll see Luke Cage continue his campaign cleaning up Harlem as the Power Man sometime in the first quarter of 2018!
