In a recent interview, actor Martin Freeman confirmed that he will be making an appearance in the upcoming Black Panther 2, reprising his role as government officer Everett Ross! While it’s unknown in what capacity the character will be returning, Freeman discussed the script with Collider, stating:

Yeah, I am doing the second Black Panther. I’m going to be speaking to Ryan Coogler soon about what shape that’s going to look like. I have no idea about the script [so] I don’t know what’s going to happen.

He further goes on to discuss how the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman has affected the cast and crew, as well as the process of continuing with the film in his absence.

Just before Chadwick died, if my memory serves correctly, the script had gone in. They had the script and they were working on the script, and then Chadwick died, and [I] sort of immediately thought, “Oh, okay, I could see a world where there’s no Black Panther then, because how can you do a Black Panther without Black Panther?” So, I still don’t know what that’s going to look like. And no, obviously, before Chad died, the idea of doing it without him would have been a stupid idea. It would have been crazy. It was very shocking, and still is very, very strange, that he is not here. So, I’m as curious as you are to see what that will look like and I find out quite soon. All I know is that I’m in it.

As of right now, Black Panther 2 is still slated to release on July 8th, 2022, though it isn’t hard to imagine that the date could be pushed due to the effects of the global health crisis and Boseman’s passing. While the cast and crew continue to mourn, they have stated that they will be moving forward with the film, albeit with a script rewrite that will reportedly feature much more emphasis on Letitia Wright’s Shuri character. The film is also rumored to be a political thriller, with such villains as Dr. Doom or Namor possibly coming to the big screen to do battle with the African nation. If those rumors are true, then it certainly makes sense for the character of Everett Ross to appear again as the United Nations liaison to the country, and it will be interesting to see how big of a role he will play moving forward. The idea of Latveria or Atlantis going to war with Wakanda is enough to get anyone excited, and as always we will keep you posted as more plot details are released.
