Circumstances haven’t been favorable to the titans of old that were the Marvel-Netflix shows lately. The cancellation of Daredevil, who happened to be one of the streaming service’s most high-profile offerings, pretty much sealed the fate of the remaining two Marvel shows for 2019. Fans are, however, hopeful for a revival under Disney’s own streaming service, Disney+. And according to an interview with Disney exec Kevin Mayer, this may very well be a possibility.
They are very high-quality shows. We haven’t yet discussed that, but I would say that’s a possibility.
There’s been a ton of debate regarding the legalities of who owns what. Is Netflix the true owner of the actual show ie. the vision of the story, the cast and their interpretations of the characters? Can Marvel, as the owner of IP, simply bring Charlie Cox and company to their own streaming service? Would Netflix even allow their direct competitor, Disney, to do a revival of a show they built up from the ground with their own money? Alas, this whole cancelation-revival fiasco is something that will continue to boggle the minds of fans until we get a clear cut answer on what their corporate plans are.
