Last night in Hollywood all the stars came out to celebrate the release of Thor: Ragnarok. In addition to the creative forces behind the film, other celebrities were on hand for the premiere, including the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Marvel produced a red carpet show for their social media platforms and did some interviews as part of the package. One of the folks they took aside for a conversation was Tessa Thompson, and she shared an interesting conversation she had with Kevin Feige.
The other day I was at Marvel because we were doing a photo shoot, and a bunch of women, Scarlett Johansson and myself and Zoe Saldana, we march up to Kevin Feige and said “When do we get an all female led superhero movie?”
She followed up by telling fans to tweet at Feige about it to make it happen.
This is another reference to the secretive photo shoot that has all of social media buzzing. The group of actors on hand was massive and included great pictures like the one below. Apparently, some of the women of the MCU also take the chance to pitch to Feige a film where they all could team up with one another.
Marvel has been a bit slow in their use of women heroes in the MCU. The original Avengers featured only Black Widow. The first film to headline a heroine is next year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, with Captain Marvel following in 2019. For years fans have begged for a Black Widow movie with minimal results. An A-Force style team up would be massive. Merely from the movies, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Valkyrie, Gamora, Mantis, Nebula, and Captain Marvel would make an awesome team. Throw in some TV characters like Jessica Jones, Medusa, Quake, Elektra, and Nico Minoru and things would get real interesting. It might be an interesting way to build a new kind of team movie, instead of just Avenger films. At this point, the old thought process that female heroes don’t sell tickets should be evaporating with the success of Wonder Woman and reception of other characters in the MCU.
What do you think? Would you like to see an A-Force style team up movie? What characters would you include or leave out? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
